Early strikes in South African Universities

It has been a difficult year for South African students in universities especially first year students. As they experience strikes at this time of the year not yet started classes. It has been noticed that Mangosuthu University of Technology has been closed down due to due to students strikes. The issues raised by students is that the students are not yet funded as we all know that most of South African students are funded by NSFAS.This is the key problem that produced the protest to students. The students how can they cooperate  even in class if the bellies are empty. The issue needed to be quickly addressed because it resulted to students destroying infrastructure roads, traffic lights, street lights even the institution property.

The institution management needs to be vigilant to the issue as it can result to short operating periods in the institution. The Durban University of Technology recently announced that is re-opening its campuses across Kwa-zulu natal after the eight weeks of strikes. The strike took place after the employees in DUT asked for salary increase and there were no responses to that. The strike that took place resulted to students not having march holidays due to cumbersome work not yet started by lectures and students in DUT. The whole strike thing affects South African tertiary service because it results to a lot of work not done to teaching and learning to both lectures and students.

The Department of Higher Education  must ensure that issues like these are quickly addressed because they affect tertiary sector and the training industry. The work not completed by institutions affect in the workplace industries

    1. It means there is a major problem in the higher institutions including the people who govern them.

    2. WSU has finally managed to infuse other universities with it's virus. It started with Fort Hare and moved to CPUT, and now across Eastern Cape. (Laughing)

  3. as we can see that most of the universities in country are striking, this tells us that now the problem stays with the management of the high institutions together with government , in other words we must not blame our institution with the problems created by government.
